Orthopods

It was triggered by an entry into a casenotes by a GS houseman.
"Orthopods please review and note the progress, many thanks"
My reg was a bit furious "how can write such remarks in case sheet one? Let's call them GSticons.."

Couldn't help laughing.
Transformers was one of my favourite cartoon during my primary school days. Now i've really forgotten why the 2 factions are fighting.. Feel like watching the upcoming movie :)

Orthobots! Transform and roll on!! (We used to comment that ortho surgeons tend to be a bit er... round..)

Familiar names of the GSticons.. i mean decepticons..

Lost Art of Zao-ing

The medical student days are littered by occasional non curricular lectures that are termed "compulsary". But somehow the zao-ing syndrome never fails to hit everyone despite the multiple threats by the dean's office.

Now, post graduation, there's commencement, pledge taking.. all also compulsary and extra-curricular but everyone is present full force.. Maybe it's a milestone in our lives.. or maybe it's the only rare times we can meet our long lost friends. But the zao-ing syndrome seems to be cured.

I love these occasions as it really makes meeting up so much easier.. Catching up with many of my lost-touch CG mates was really great.

Most of our aims since medical student days have changed, though the hardcore ones like Jeremy could stick to his pursuit, relentless despite the setbacks and stresses. Where would each of us end up in years to come? Really interesting to find out..

Why go Diving?

I used to think going to Sentosa's underwater world was expensive.. Not till I went with Dear the last weekend.. I realised I should have spent the money earlier instead of diving..

Why dive when you can confirm see stingrays, sharks, jacks and moray eels when you pay $20 at Sentosa..

Why pay to dive when $20 can bring you the natilus.. i dun even know where to dive to find these fossil creatures...

Not to say these giant japanese spider craps that can reach the height of my knees..

Was a wonderful trip.. It pays to visit some attactions after some time, the underwater world has really improved since the last time i went.. makes me think twice about diving next time :)
Oh and did i miss out the time taken to reach sentosa is like ten times less than the nearest good dive site in Malaysia?
Why go diving???

Toilet Advertisement

Then if nothing wrong with your eyes can go level 4 for urology consult.... Then if nothing wrong with urinary tract can go level 5 orthopaedics to examine you for weak lower limbs... What good advertisement :)

Clinics

First week of MO posting..

I know why so many doctors dread clinics.. This must be the reason why polyclinics postings are not that heavenly..

Even in the ortho clinics, there are usually bookings of up to 30 patients a session. This means 6mins a patient including all the paperwork.

I've been a patient before and i am always prepared to wait at least 2 hours to see the spine specialist taking care of me.. 1 hour is a blessing already. I can understand why. It just takes a more inquisitive or demanding patient and there goes the time allocation. Then one will have to rush through other cases or wish that the next case is just a post discharge review of a T and S or something similar

Some patients come in and have multiple other problems on top of their orthopaedic ones.. But how to tell them that they are in an ortho clinic so have to go elsewhere for their cough?
Then there are those who come with family members and both patient and relative complain of 2 different pathologies at the same time..

I guess there's no solution to this.. of course having more clinic rooms open is an option, but when colleagues go on leave.. how to do that?
